IATA Endorsed Training School What is IATA? The International Air Transport Association (IATA) "is the trade association of the world's international airline industry. Originally founded in 1919, it now groups together nearly 280 airlines, including the world's largest. These airlines fly over 95 percent of all international scheduled air traffic." - http://www.iata.org/index.htm | |
So what does IATA have to do with the transportation of dangerous goods? The International Air Transport Association recognized since the 1950's that "there was a need to standardize the rules governing the transport of dangerous goods by air." Because of this IATA helped write the first set of standardized rules which provided "not only for the safe, efficient transportation of these materials but would also help identify and stop undeclared and other potentially hazardous shipments from being carried." IATA has remained involved in these efforts since these early days. The International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Program remains involved throughout the world in issues involving the air transportation of dangerous goods. What's an IATA Endorsed Training School and do I have to get training from one to ship dangerous goods by air? NO, you do not have to get training from an IATA Endorsed Training School to ship dangerous goods by air, but you can expect schools that have the IATA Endorsement "to deliver a good standard of effective training." This is because IATA ensures that all schools which receive its endorsement meet at least the "minimum world wide standard for dangerous good training." The IATA Dangerous Goods Training School Program has been around since 1986, through this program IATA is ensuring that proper training for the transportation of dangerous goods by air available can be obtained worldwide by third party training establishments.
