Excavating and Trenching is recognized as one of the most hazardous construction operations. Two workers are killed every month in trench collapses. Employers must provide a workplace free of recognized hazards that may cause serious injury or death, and must comply with the trenching and excavation requirements of 29 CFR 1926.651 and 1926.652 or comparable OSHA-approved state plan requirements.

OSHA has revised Subpart P, Excavations, of 29 CFR 1926.650, 29 CFR 1926.651, and 29 CFR 1926.652 to make the standard easier to understand, permit the use of performance criteria where possible, and provide construction employers with options when classifying soil and selecting employee protection methods.

OSHA Trenching and Excavation requirements and hazards are addressed in this workshop. Several pretests and post tests are used throughout the workshop.

Students may stop and restart this course at their own pace. The course consists of video, practice problems and an examination.
